Can't enjoy my wine man! The stress & distress it brings to the ones I love.

We must live & love every day as fully as we are allowed. And, look forward because that's the only direction you can go.

We will make an arrangement with a local colon cancer support group.

Multiple flushes of bloody stool, spontaneous initiation & resolution, over four hours in mid-December 2004. Analyzed by a PA to probably be a manifestation of diverticulitis shown on sigmoidoscopy 2 yrs before. Six weeks later further flushings resulted in ER admission to Holy Cross Hospital January 31, 2005.

Blood transfusion immediately, multiple tests, & scheduled colonoscopy resulted in surgery Feb 5, 2005, showing the presence of a tumor just above the appendix that had to be removed. A 2 foot long section of the colon was removed & the ends reattached. Biopsy showed stage 4 disease with metastasis to the peritoneum.

Don't be SCARED!Views: 488

Hey folks. Have the intensity of the last couple of posts scared ya’ll?

I’m afraid that they really have been leaning to the “emo” side of things. It’s funny. The intention I had when starting the Daddy Lane Is Crazy Cute entry was truly meant to focus on his positive qualities in a lighter tone. Boy did that change quickly.

I gotta ask folks to continue to post comments. Even if they are difficult for you to do they really help me to get feedback, but most importantly, they give the old man an opportunity to hear from you and get an idea of his fan bases status. Be prepared because in the very fear future the post will just be asking for people to leave a comment for the Skinny Mack AKA Daddy Dough Stacks. And you thought that Jerry Lane was just about the intellect? Nah honey, he’s got crazy game too!

Mom and Dad are having tender moments like the one pictured above from last week. But have no fear! They are still maintaining a more-or-less average daily routine of bickering and showing love to each other in their own little ways.

Daddy Lane got an award last night (OK it’s two nights ago now, I thought I posted this yes-turd-ay)! Actually it was a medal! We went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center for a volunteers meeting. At the end of the meeting they presented Daddy Lane with a Red Cross medal honoring the services he provided when he was greeting the soldiers as they get off the buses upon their return from overseas and giving them care packages and information/guidance. At times it is the first time they are aware of being back in the United States, they may be trying to figure out how they can connect with loved ones or simply trying to get a hamburger and fries. I spoke with an injured soldier (Dwayne, an amputee that has been living at Walter Reed since 2004) and he asked me to thank all of the volunteers for him, telling me that after the long flight overseas it meant a lot to him to see a happy face and have a warm reception. The Red Cross volunteers are very taken by Daddy Lane and had a lot of positive things to say to him. You go Daddy Lezzy!

I learned that the hospital in Landsuhl, Germany where injured soldiers are stabilized before they are flown back to the states only has 160 beds, yet they receive more than 700 injured soldiers a week! The Red Cross and their volunteers have a huge job and are truly amazing people for giving their time and showing respect to the people that have made a huge sacrifice and are now attempting to pick up the pieces and figure out where to go from here.

I am hoping to organize a quilt making “circle” for Daddy Lane. So far it’s just an idea so I would like to hear from people that are interested to I get an idea of whom may be willing to sew a panel for the Old Man. What I’m thinking is to send packages of pre-cut fabric pieces to those interested and then sew them together into a big love blanky for his skinny azz. It’s not like were are hurtin for things to do over here but busy hands…

So this is a good way to end it today, Momma Lane is out at her exercise class and and then to get her brutiful har done, Daddy Lane is going down to the basement to take care of some paperwork he has prioritized related to NARFE. Once he’s done with that he will be available to write you all a little letter, maybe tomorrow? Then if we have any energy left today we’ll head to COSTCO to restock the video tapes that Paul has shot so far.

Take Care!

Timothy

PS So that was yesterdays blog-ski. I was able to shop but not at Costco, I picked up the basics and will be cooking/smoking today so we have food for the next couple of whatev’s. I got a lot of yard work done and Dad worked really hard on his NARFE newsletter stuff. That pretty much took all of his energy and he was SUPER tired in the evening. He slept a great deal throughout the day. He was unstable when he was walking and it made us rather concerned/nervous. He is having a harder time staying focused and engaged. We had a really intense conversation/lovefest on the back porch letting him know how much he means to us as a family and reflecting to him how he appears to be letting go a little bit more day by day as he eats less and less. It was more beautiful that difficult and at the same time was really hard to process later in the evening. I called Annette and let her know what is going on and to get a report on her move. She and I had a moment together and agreed that this weekend is good for family time. She will taking care of childcare and heading up as soon as her “new house” ass permits. skizz MMMMMMMMMM! Skatepark! This is the hip in the big bowl at the Bowie park. I had to get a Skate ID card to ride there….Yay, for Skate ID’s! I also got to skate a ditch that I used to ride with my friends when I was 15-16 called Riverdale, so much fun! I’m a re-juvenile!

The pic of mom and dad brought tears to my eyes. The tenderness and love are amazing, I had to go and hug my bride and remember what a blessing she is.

Thank you for sharing such an intimate glimpse fo their love

Mac

Greetings from Annette’s friend Deb in the RIC. What a gift it is, Tim, for you to be there with your parents and for you to keep family and friends updated through this blog. You have a great ability to put humor and emotion together in such a real, human way.

Jerry, thanks for sharing this blog with Annette’s non-blood family. Your spirit and humor and dignity and warmth and quiet strength is inspiring. It’s been nice to see the great pictures of you and the grandkids and family and friends, and hear about your latest Richmond visits, and your video recording sessions closer to home.

I want to share a memory with everyone that I only wish we had caught on video. It was after Annette moved to her Nottoway house…maybe ‘97 or ‘98(?) and Jerry and Marian came down for Easter weekend. Annette had brunch at her house that Sunday, so several of the Richmond gang came over to visit.

Barry was later than the rest of us (surprise, surprise) and as usual, we weren’t sure that he was coming until he called shortly before he got there, and he mentioned that he was bringing a new girlfriend. So Annette came back and said Barry’s coming and he’s not coming alone(!).

I think it was Adam who said we need to show the new girlfriend what kind of friends Barry has, and Jerry chimed in and said, “I know—let’s act we’re all passed drunk!” Heh heh heh… Annette had already told Barry to come straight to the back yard, so it was perfect.

Some of us were in chairs—eyes closed, heads back, limbs limp… Several others (like yours truly) skipped the chairs altogther and went for the ground.

So, they came around back and we got the expected Barry line: “Oh…my…God!” We kept still for all of 10 seconds or so and then started cracking up and couldn’t stop. After we dusted ourselves off and finally stopped laughing, Barry looked around at us said, “Okay, so who’s idea was this?!” and we all pointed to Jerry, who had this great smile on his face.

Daddy Lane, thanks for making me smile 10 or so years later. You’re in our thoughts, prayers and the firmly implanted Nottoway back yard Easter Sunday laugh track in my head…still my standard for cool “meet the parents” experiences!

Maybe y’all should try the back yard pass-out in Silver Spring when someone from NARFE or hospice comes over. ;-) If you do, we want to hear all about it!

Love and Hugs,
Deb (formerly Julie McCoy, now historian and official poster) and the Richmond Gang
